UQ's Data Strategy and Governance team supports the continuous improvement of data and information governance and management at UQ.
This includes defining roles and responsibilities, decision rights, controls and processes to manage data and information at UQ. We also provide advice and direction regarding data, information and records management.
What We Do
Advisory
Our team provides advice on:
- Best practices for data handling and secure file storage
- UQ's obligations under the Public Records Act 2023
- Internal and external data sharing
- Sensitivity labels and information security classifications
- Data governance roles and responsibilities
- Records management, including retention, disposal and use of TRIM
- Data governance for project teams and managers
Records Management
UQ is required to manage information in line with the requirements of the Public Records Act 2023. This includes keeping records for specified minimum time periods, and seeking approval for disposal of records.
Our team:
- Provides guidance and support on the retention, management and disposal of records in all formats (physical and digital)
- Delivers TRIM (enterprise records management system) training and user support
- Processes retrieval and scanning requests for legacy physical records and records in TRIM
- Facilitates the records disposal process including appraisal, approvals and documentation.

Data sharing agreements
Our team:
- Reviews and facilitates approval of data sharing agreements
- Maintains a central register of agreements for transparency and compliance.
